Dental Block For Lip Fillers
A dental block is a series of lidocaine injections in the mouth to help alleviate the pain of lip fillers. This can be added to your treatment if you have a very low pain threshold or a fear of the treatment / needles. It works faster and more intensely than topical numbing cream.
The first few injections may feel like a sharp sting but the lidocaine starts to work immediately and so subsequent injections may be felt a lot less.
The area will be numb five minutes after the injections and so treatment can be started promptly afterwards.
The numbing effect will start to wear off after 2-4 hours. It can take up to 12 hours for all numbing to fully subside.
- There may be more swelling after the lip filler treatment.
- Temporary blanching may also occur where the lips look lighter in colour – this subsides after a few hours since it is due to the lidocaine tightening blood vessels.
